BET.com Earns GLAAD Media Award Nomination for ‘12 Days of Pride’ Series

The multimedia project celebrating LGBTQ voices lands a nomination for Outstanding Online Journalism as part of the 37th GLAAD Media Awards.

BET.com is celebrating a major moment of recognition.

The platform has officially earned a nomination at the GLAAD Media Awards for its original video and multimedia series 12 Days of Pride, landing in the Outstanding Online Journalism – Video or Multimedia category.

The honor places the legacy outlet alongside an impressive slate of nominees from NPR, CNN, The New Yorker, LogoTV, and more, underscoring the cultural and editorial weight of this year’s competition.

Designed as a love letter to queer storytelling, the series featured 12 intimate interviews spotlighting LGBTQ voices across entertainment, culture, and community. The project was written by longtime BET.com contributor Clay Cane and led by BET.com Editorial Director Yesha Callahan, whose vision centered on authenticity, vulnerability, and visibility during Pride Month.

Among the standout conversations were interviews with actor D.K. Uzoukwu and singer-songwriter Durand Bernarr, a four-time Grammy nominee, as well as other notable voices who reflected on identity, artistry, love, and the power of living openly.

This year’s GLAAD nominations reflect a broader shift in media consumption, one where LGBTQ stories are not niche but essential. In a statement announcing the nominees, Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD, emphasized the urgency and impact of inclusive storytelling.

She noted that the most visible projects on this year’s list are being embraced because LGBTQ narratives remain “a winning strategy for a global audience,” particularly for those who crave boldness, originality, and authenticity.

As media consumption habits evolve, Ellis emphasized that storytelling is no longer confined to legacy formats, pointing to the rise of gaming, local news, and podcasts as “proud homes to LGBTQ talent and narratives.”

At the same time, the recognition carries deeper significance. In an era marked by escalating anti-LGBTQ disinformation, Ellis underscored GLAAD’s continued responsibility to challenge false narratives and uplift stories rooted in truth.

The organization, she said, remains “relentless” in its mission to champion fair and accurate representation — stories that reinforce shared values of family, fairness, and freedom for all.

The 37th GLAAD Media Awards will take place in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 5, where winners across film, television, journalism, music, and digital media will be announced.
