Hip Hop Awards 2022: See Which Artists Are Leading in the Nomination Race at This Year’s Ceremony
The BET Hip Hop Awards 2022 are just around the corner, and it is expected to be a must-see event hosted by legendary rapper Fat Joe. Viewers can expect to see some of the most prominent figures in hip-hop music and culture, show-stopping performances, and big winning moments.
Canadian rap star Drake leads with 14 nominations. But the “One Dance” emcee isn’t the only emcee who earned recognitions in over a half dozen categories. Ahead of this year’s ceremony, check which artists are leading in the nomination race, and don’t forget to tune into the ceremony airing Tuesday, October 4, at 9 PM ET/PT on BET.
Drake
Aforementioned, Drake leads the race with an impressive 14 nominations. The “Gods Plan'' emcee earned recognition in over a dozen categories—some of which he’s mentioned numerous times—including “Hustler of the Year,” “Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse,” “Best Hip Hop Video,” and twice for ‘Song of the Year.’
Drake earned three nominations in the “Best Collaboration” category for “Jimmy Cooks,” featuring 21 Savage and his smash hit single “Way 2 Sexy,” with frequent collaborator Future and Young Thug. The OVO boss also earned a nod for his work on Future’s “Wait For U” featuring Tems.
Kanye West
Legendary emcee Kanye West comes in second this year with a total of ten nods, in various categories, including “Best Live Performer,” “Hip Hop Artist of the Year,” “Producer of the Year,” “Hip Hop Album of the Year,” for his tenth studio album Donda, and many more.
Kendrick Lamar
West Coast legend Kendrick Lamar is already ready a winner of 19 Hip Hop Awards, but that could increase significantly after the emcee racked up nine nods this year across several groups, including “Best Live Performer,” “Lyricist of the Year,” “Hip Hop Artist of the Year,” and “Hip Hop Album of the Year” for his recently released Mr. Moral and the Big Steppers. The Grammy Award-winning rapper also received two nominations for ‘Impact Track.’
Future
Atlanta rapper Future rounds out the top four, earning himself eight nods for his smash record “Wait For U.” The song of the summer earned recognition “Best Hip Hop Video,” “Best Collaboration,” “Song of the Year,” and “Hip Hop Album of the Year” for his newest album I Never Liked You.
Baby Keem, Cardi B, and J. Cole
Rappers Cardi B, J. Cole, and Baby Keem are all tied, earning six nodes each, the former of which is no stranger to the Hip Hop Awards winner’s circle. Cardi has 14 wins, the most for any female artist; J. Cole has earned nine awards, while Keem could win his first-ever Hip Hop Award.
