PJ Morton Fans Gifted A Surprise Pop Up Stevie Wonder Performance

The soul legend surprised PJ onstage during a recent tour stop, turning the show into a once-in-a-lifetime jam session.

Imagine going to see PJ Morton perform and while having the most soulful night of your life, and Stevie Wonder appears out of nowhere and begins singing “Love’s In Need Of Love Today.”

That’s what happened earlier this week when fans were left gagged by such a beautiful and legendary surprise. PJ Morton, the Grammy-winning singer, producer, and keyboardist known for fusing classic R&B, gospel and modern soul is currently on tour and he teased fans about his Los Angeles stop and said, “LA!! Heard some of y’all were complaining about them knees! 😅 We got seats! See you Sunday at @belascola!” Morton took honest feedback from his fans of a certain age and mobility and decided to make the event a seated show.

Best decision ever. Because when one of his biggest inspirations and icons in the music industry, Stevie Wonder, decided to pop up on him, concert-goers could be seated for what was surely a knees-weakening performance.

Morton said, “My real life hero pulled up and not only talked to the people but sang too! So grateful for these moments.” It’s very obvious that Wonder inspires, champions, and motivates Morton’s music. His soulful piano playing would cease to exist without Wonder’s art.

Back in 2020, Morton paid tribute to Wonder during a Billboard Live at Home performance. Morton called Wonder “my biggest inspiration and influence.” He performed Stevie’s “Love’s In Need of Love Today” ballad and reminisced on their 2013 collaboration titled “Only One,” which Morton considered “still the biggest and most amazing thing I’ve ever accomplished.”

This pop up Stevie Wonder jam session may be the newest and most amazing gift PJ Morton has ever been given. Mr. Wonder doesn’t just pop up for anyone. PJ Morton’s tour will be stopping through Memphis (11/10), DC (11/17), New Orleans (11/28), Houston (12/16), Miami (with Nu-Deco Orchestra 12/19) and on the Maxwell Cruise 2026 (2/7-2/12). Who knows what other legends Morton has up his sleeve!?
