2022 NAACP Image Awards: 5 Woke Moments with Nominee Amanda Seales
Actress, comedienne, and activist Amanda Seales isn’t afraid to speak her mind. At the same time, many of her critics may find her to be controversial given her commentary on several different matters both in the real world and Hollywood. However, that has yet to stop the star from standing by what she believes—which more times than none have landed her invitations to prominent platforms.
Her talents across genres have garnered her lots of success. This year, she can add one more accolade to her collection after being nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series” at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards for her role as Tiffany DuBois on the hit HBO series Insecure.

Amanda and Caitlyn Jenner engage in a teaching moment
During a celebrity-attended dinner party hosted by pop star Katy Perry, the social justice advocate had an important lesson on privilege for Caitlyn Jenner after the reality star said she believes in this country during a 2017 discussion about the future of America. The actress explained to Caitlyn that the phrase holds a different meaning for white people than for a Black person. The entire event was streamed on Katey’s live, and it also birthed Amanda’s iconic “I’m not hostile, I’m passionate” phrase was born.
Amanda gives a lesson about Country music
Amanda reminded folks on social media of Black people’s critical role in the creation of Country music after racist trolls verbally attacked singer and songwriter Mickey Guyton.
Amanda slams those defending R. Kelly
The outspoken actress did not mince her words regarding the disgraced entertainer and those who continue to support him. During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Amanda stood firm on her stance to boycott the singer and all of his work. She also sternly warned fellow comedians who referenced the artist in their jokes to renounce the public figure.
Amanda defends Black women
Several years ago, white party host and social media personality Julieanna Goddard, also known as @YesJulz, began an unprovoked feud on social media after randomly calling out Black influencers Scottie Beam and Karen Civil during an appearance on the Easil Offended podcast with Murda Mook, ItsBizKit, and Movie Matt.
In one of her more spicery clap-back moments, Amanda, being the advocate for Black women that she is, wasted no time to address the incident writing in a short Instagram post, “There are too many white women who think a fat a– makes them superior to a black queen.” she added, “There are too many black men who agree.”
Amanda calls out the eraser of Black women in movie spaces
As the hype grew around Netflix’s latest film, Don’t Look Up, the comedy disaster film about capitalism’s role in the destruction of society, one thing could be noted–there were little to no Black women in the movie. Last December 2021, the actress called out how Hollywood seemingly leaves Black women out of films that typically deal with issues affecting the world.
