The Queen of Soul will be going without a king for the time being. Aretha Franklin, who announced her engagement to longtime friend Willie Wilkerson on January 3, has called off the wedding.
"Regretfully, To Our Friends and Supporters: Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly," said Franklin in a statement. "There will be no wedding at this time."
"We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends."
The statement was signed "Aretha and Will."
While it's unclear if Will's and Aretha's engagement is still on, it does seem like the old friends intend to remain that way.
