Jeezy: I Was Nearly Hit When Suge Knight Was Shot

Pastor Young reflects on his hectic 2014.

More than a year after he was arrested on gun charges stemming from an alleged connection to a murder in Oakland, Jeezy is speaking on the incidents surrounding the incident (which he was later cleared of), including the night Suge Knight was shot multiple times.

“I get on the bus and go to L.A. Chris Brown calls me, [says] ‘Come to my album release party,’ he explained to Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club this morning. “Cool, I ain’t got nothing to do, ain’t no show, I’ll be there. [I] walk in his album release party. Three minutes in there, I see Suge walking over. So I’m standing there and I see some homies standing behind me. I’m like, ‘This is crazy.’ My man say, ‘Yo Young, watch out, they ‘bout to pop this n***a.’ I said, ‘What?’ He pushed me. I fell on Chris Brown [impersonates gunshot noises] and I’m looking around like, ‘Did these n****s just shoot this n***a?’

“I look at the boy Suge, he look at me and he standing up and he trying to talk to me,” he continued. “‘Cause whoever he don’t want to see is past me, so he trying to conversate with me on some cool, and I ain’t seen him in a while, so I’m like, ‘Wow, what’s up?’ It was crazy because my man got hit in his arm like two times trying to push me out the way. So hadn’t he pushed me, I would’ve got hit.”

Elsewhere during the interview, Jeezy discussed Church in These Streets and says the album is all about growth. On sale today, the drop is his eighth solo studio LP and perhaps his most reflective when it comes to his life leading up to this point.

It’s also a little more political and could be the turning point for his actions and musical output moving forward. premiered Jeezy’s latest video for the album’s title track today.
