Natalia Bryant Makes Directorial Debut With Lakers Short Film

The 22-year-old steps behind the camera to honor her father's legacy and celebrate Lakers culture globally.

Natalia Bryant, the daughter of the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant, is officially making her directorial debut with “Forever Iconic: Purple and Gold Always,” a Los Angeles Lakers short film. The piece honors Lakers culture beyond the court, spotlighting how the team’s influence flows into fashion, entertainment, and life in L.A. and beyond.

The short film features high-profile cameos like LeBron James, Luka Dončić, Magic Johnson, Brenda Song, and designer Jeff Hamilton, among others. Scenes shift between global fans wearing Lakers gear, creative expressions of pride, and nostalgic clips — including a moment where Dončić yells “Kobe!” then mimics an iconic shot.

In another nod to her dad, Natalia included a clip of her dad hitting a game-winning shot as the announcer says, "Bryant for the win!"

Bryant released a statement through People:

“This project was an amazing, collaborative environment with such creative people and we all came together to try and portray the Lakers’ impact, not only in LA but around the world. Everyone has their own connection to the Lakers. I hope those who already love this team watch this project and remember what that pride feels like. And if you’re not a Lakers fan yet, I hope you watch this, and it makes you want to be.”

At just 22 and a recent USC cum laude film grad, Natalia is making her mark behind the lens and injecting her own voice into a franchise she’s long called home. Natalia honors Kobe every chance she gets. At graduation, she had “Thank you Mom & Dad” sewn into her sash. Natalia's graduation sash also included her father's sheath logo on the top left.

The short film comes just ahead of the 2025-26 season. Natalia is carrying her father’s legacy and expanding her blossoming career. She’s sure to be forever iconic, just like her dad. Last year, Natalia told Town & Country, “In terms of legacy, my main goal is just to be the best version of me that I possibly can,” she said, and added, "I just need to know that I have to keep learning, because there’s no finish line. You just have to keep pushing and being the best person you can be and soaking everything up like a sponge... The job’s never done.”
