Aretha Franklin Releases Statement Amid Internet Flood Of Death Rumors

We can all rest easy now.

The music world almost came to a standstill when rumors began swirling that Aretha Franklin’s time on Earth may be coming to an end. But the Queen of Soul released a statement on Tuesday (Nov. 21), confirming that she isn’t going anywhere.

According to a report on Fameolous Daily, sources claimed the iconic singer was being held in the hospital due to complications with cancer. The report alleged that she was in poor health and nearing the end. An outpouring of support and grief hit social media following the initial report, with many fans remembering the singer’s classic songs and contributions to the music industry.

But in an email to US Weekly, Franklin set the record straight. “I’m doing well generally, all tests have come back good,” Franklin wrote. While the "Chain of Fools" singer has notably had health issues in the past, she simply stated her only issue at the moment was “a lot of weight due to side effects of medicine.” “Thanxxxx for your concern,” she added.

A source close to Franklin claimed the music legend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010, but Franklin denied the reports in an interview the following year. The nature of her health struggles is unknown and remains a private matter.
