Post Malone Blames Controversial Comments On The Alcohol: "I Love Hip-Hop"

The rapper says people misunderstood him.

Post Malone incited a lot of hip-hop fans this past week, after he suggested that the genre wasn’t producing thought-provoking music and that people shouldn’t even waste their time listening to it. After facing a flood of backlash on social media and allegedly sobering up however, the “White Iverson” rapper is changing his tune. In a video statement on Twitter posted on Nov. 23, the artist clarified his earlier comments.

The “Rockstar” artist started his message by blaming his comments on the alcohol. According to him, the quotes that caused the uproar were pulled from a “beer-tasting” interview, which may have affected his judgement. Even so, he said his words were misunderstood. “It’s funny, because who the f**k am I to tell you don’t listen to this, and whenever you wanna feel something, don’t listen to this,” Post Malone questioned, referencing his earlier commands when he told people to not listen to hip-hop if they wanted something “deep.” “Or who am I to tell you that you should feel a certain way when listening to something?”

He also set the record about his comments about Bob Dylan being an emotional artist he liked to listen to. “What I was saying was that when I wanna sit down and cry, I listen to Bob Dylan and his guitar, just like everyone else,” he explained. “No matter how hard you are, no matter where you’re from, you’re going to have a time where you sit back and reflect on your life and you listen to what you want to listen to. For me, that’s Bob Dylan.”

In conclusion, he dismissed the idea that he isn't a hip-hop fan. “A lot of people [are] saying that I don’t appreciate hip-hop or that I’m taking advantage of hip-hop: My last hip-hop album was f**king hip-hop, my next hip-hop album is f**king hip-hop. I love hip-hop, I make hip-hop,” he continued. “I want to take the genre and stretch it so far that people who may not listen to it listen to it, and want to listen to the new artists and whatever is going on.”

This isn’t the first time people have questioned Post Malone’s love for hip-hop, and it likely won’t be the last. Considering the rapper’s continued interest in creating hip-hop music, he might want to be more careful about what he says, alcohol or not.
