Weslyn "Mama Wes" Monroe, mother of deceased UGK rapper Pimp C, died at a Texas hospital Sunday (Aug. 18), according to the Beumont Enterprise. Monroe, 66, had reportedly been battling a serious illness and was admitted into a Port Aurthur hospital a few days ago.
UGK member Bun B confirmed her passing posting a photo of Pimp C and and his mother online, along with a caption thanking "everyone that has sent prayers and condolences."
"She was a great woman," the dedication added. "Nurture us from boys to men and made us strong enough to handle this industry. She was the one that kept us going when we didn't wanna go anymore. She was the backbone of UGK, the definition of loyalty, the personification of unconditional love and the essence of what being Trill really meant. She's finally reunited with her son. God bless you both. RIP Mama Wes. You gave everything to make us Underground Kings."
She was known to wear a signature red shirt at concerts in full support of her "babies," as she called them. Fellow rappers 2 Chainz, Big K.R.I.T. and producer Mike Dean all tweeted tributes to Monroe.
Pimp C died from a drug overdose in 2007. Just last week Juicy J announced that he will produce the Texas native's next posthumous album.
