Inside SZN4’s Rise From Netflix Breakout To The Industry’s Newest Group To Watch

In an exclusive interview, SZN4 opens up about their upcoming Christmas project, the tour they’re gearing up for, and the momentum carrying them into the new year.

SZN4 carries the kind of chemistry that explains why viewers locked in with them on Netflix. Katie Roeder, Cameron Goode, Donzell Taggart, and Aaliyah Rose stepped into “Building the Band” as strangers with shared hopes. They walked out as a group, learning to navigate a real career together. BET caught up with the rising co-ed quartet as they reflected on the shift that turned a TV moment into an everyday reality.

When asked when everything started to feel real, the group didn’t hold back.

“Literally, we had a conversation today, we were like ‘Dang, we're really doing this,’ but it's still it's so insane,” Donzell said. “I'm still not really processing all of it. It honestly still feels like a dream because it's like everything we've wanted to do forever. We get to do it every day. We get to do it together.”

Cameron remembered the breakthrough happening on the show itself. “It really hasn't clicked one hundred percent, but I will say once we got past…‘Sweet Love.’ After the showcase, it was definitely like, ‘Oh, we're here, and we have something to say.’”

Their identity as a co-ed group gives them a lane that feels wide open. Katie said the setup gives everyone room to show up as themselves. “I feel like it gives us a little more space to be genuinely authentic in ourselves because we don't have to be stuck in that specific boy band mold or specific girl band mold. We can just do what feels the most real and authentic to us.”

Cameron kept the moment light. “The only thing that is the obstacle in this group is between me and Katie, who's getting the top part, and that's really it. I think just like with any group, we all just have really strong personalities.”

Much of that bond developed while living together after filming. Donzell said the time shaped how the group functions now. “We all sort of lived together for like three months, and that's really when we started getting to know who each other were. Being in this group helped me to understand the world more. People. It was really cool. Very much a blessing.”

Their sound reflects a mix of shared taste and individual style. Aaliyah said, “We all listen to a lot of similar music, but we also listen to very different music as well, which makes it super unique because we can sprinkle in every genre. It always ends up being SZN4.” Katie added, “Even when we're working on music, each of us will have a different favorite part.”

The group released a Christmas EP titled “Tis The SZN” on Thanksgiving, excited to take over our holiday playlists. “Honestly, we all love Christmas and music, so it's like what better than to mix up two?” Aaliyah said. Cameron added that the project feels natural. “Christmas music is on the nose for us as well. These songs, and the original songs on the EP, too. It's just so exciting.” The group confirmed the EP carries five songs.

Their dynamic offstage is just as entertaining. When asked who runs late, everyone pointed to Aaliyah. When asked who pushes for one more take in the studio, all eyes went to Cameron, who admitted, “I am such a perfectionist. Music is particular. I hear so much. When I'm in the studio, that's the space where I want to be my most comfortable and have the perfect take.”

The “Next Stop Tour” is up next, and the group is ready for the stage.

“We're excited to create an experience. Every time we performed on the show, we felt this level of control over the environment. When we see all of our fans and travel, we're excited to capture an experience and tell our stories,” Cameron said.

“Performing in front of our fans makes us light up on stage even more. Their energy amplifies our energy,” Katie added.

The fan love continues to move them. Donzell said, “Sometimes it feels like it's fake. I'm like, is this person joking? Imposter syndrome.” Aaliyah said hearing “you guys changed my life” still means everything. Katie added that the range of ages supporting them is a blessing.

As the year wraps up, the group is tight-lipped about what fans can expect in 2026.

“Oh, you're going to be surprised,” Donzell said. “Something big is in store before 2026,” Aaliyah said.

SZN4’s journey started on Netflix, but the dedication happening now is shaping the next chapter. Their story is still building, and their momentum is only getting stronger.
