Spotlighting International DJs Spinning the Sounds of the Diaspora
The sounds of the diaspora span the globe, from hip-hop in the US to South African's amapiano, Nigerian and Ghanaian Afro beats, Jamaica's one-drop, Trini's soca, Brazilian house to jungle and London’s grime.
Since the disaster of enslavement and ever reaching project of colonialism the sounds of the diaspora have been connected by the drum beat, the bassline, the percussion. Now we are connected to new music and fusions by those spinning our ever evolving fresh sounds.
Historically, the disc jockey rocked the party—digging in crates, moving the crowd, and setting the stage for battles. Today, DJs, such as D-Nice, who brought us through the dark isolation of the coronavirus pandemic, are also using social media to circulate the perpetually innovative sounds of the Black diaspora.
