Tracy Morgan Is Still In Mourning Over The Deadly Car Accident That Left Him in a Coma Over 10 Years Ago

The comedian says he’d trade everything to bring friend and comedian Jimmy McNair home — and now channels that grief into his heartfelt new series ‘Crutch.’

Comedian Tracy Morgan said there isn’t a price worth his friend’s life — and he’d give it all back if he could. The “30 Rock” alum told Nate Burleson on “CBS Mornings” that he’d trade everything to get his friend and fellow comedian Jimmy McNair back after the 2014 limo crash that killed McNair and nearly cost Morgan his life. “I'd give it all back if I get my friend back,” Morgan said. “And I wouldn't blink.”

Now Morgan is channeling his grief into work. In his latest project, “Crutch,” he stars as Frank Crutchfield, a widowed father—a role he says feels personal because “If it doesn't have a heart, I don't want to do it. I need to be motivated. I got to say something. You got to tell life how I see it."

Morgan also told “CBS Mornings” that the role connects to his life as he lost his high school sweetheart, Sabina, in 2016. In talking about his late love, he said, “I was with her in the hospital the day she closed her eyes and I said, 'I love you.'”

Morgan recounted the crash and its fallout with visible pain. He was riding in a limousine with McNair when a Walmart tractor-trailer struck the vehicle. Morgan spent two weeks in a coma, suffered multiple broken bones, a fractured femur, and brain trauma. “There are days where I don't physically feel well,” he told Burleson.

Despite the pain and trauma of what he’s been through, Morgan said, “The man almost killed me in that Walmart truck. I forgave him. As soon as I came out the coma, I forgave him.”

"I wouldn't have been able to be funny no more. I would have been too angry. He almost killed me. I forgave him just to move forward with my life. Now look at me. I'm funnier than ever," he added.

Morgan’s vulnerable admission is a sobering reminder that money and fame can’t erase loss. Even years later, his grief remains present, and his willingness to trade it all to have his friend back shows just how deep and unrelenting that wound still runs.
