The Meal Meghan Markle Cooked While Prince Harry Proposed Is Literally Called 'Engagement Roast Chicken'

And luckily for you, we've got the recipe!

On one hand, the British monarchy is an overwhelming bastion of white supremacy. On the other hand, we'll be the first to admit we're hype to have a Black princess.

So if you, like us, have been poring over every last detail regarding last week's revelation that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged to be married, you may have picked up on this one small detail: they were roasting a chicken when he popped the question.

As unsexy as this might sound, it may not be all that surprising that the basting of uncooked poultry led to a diamond ring — not to Ina Garten at least, who is the cook responsible for the very recipe that brought about the new addition to the Royal family. On November 28, the day after the couple announced their engagement, Garten tweeted, "Congratulations to Prince Harry and Meghan! I always knew roast chicken had magic powers!! I'm so happy for both of you!"

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle share a love of roast chicken. Back in 2016, in an interview with Good Housekeeping, Markle praised Garten's specific recipe for preparing the fowl. It also happens to be one of Prince Harry's favorite meals. Because life imitates art, and Ina Garten's butter-heavy recipes are just that (art), the official roast chicken recipe is actually called "Engagement Roast Chicken." We are not making this ish up, folks.

What better time to have such a recipe fall into your lap than in the final stages of cuffing SZN? Hey, if this roast chicken got Markle to "secure the palace," who knows what it could do for you. Care to give it a try and report back with your results? Say no more, fam — here's the recipe!
