Muni Long Sets the Record Straight After Her Mariah Moment Goes Viral
Muni Long stepped into the chat this week to clear the air after the internet tried to spin her latest promo into something it wasn’t. The Grammy-winning singer dropped two comedy skits featuring a Mariah Carey impersonator to help tease her new single, and fans immediately started reading into it. In the caption of the first video, she joked, “And maybe… I can come around to people singing my songs if this who singing it!”
The clip opens with the impersonator giving a dramatic rendition of Muni’s hit “Delulu.” She even pulls Muni aside to give her “notes” on how she should perform her own song and warns her about overhead lighting. Muni listens and then stamps “Delulu” across the impersonator’s headshot before saying, “I just don’t like when other people sing my songs.”
The second video turns the comedy up even more. Muni acts thrilled that “Mariah” came to her rehearsal, but the impersonator quickly reminds her who the superstar is and literally pushes her out of the frame. Muni doesn’t get mad at all. She just looks at her and says, “Thank you.” In the caption, she added, “She could push me off of every ledge in sight.”
Social media saw the skits and assumed she was shading Mariah Carey. Fans pointed to their past collaborations on “Infinity” and “Made For Me,” and tried to turn it into drama. Muni shut that down instantly. On Instagram Stories, she wrote, “Y’all don’t be delulu,” and made it clear the videos were simply jokes. She followed up with, “I would never disrespect Queen Mariah!!!!!! Forever a Lamb.”
Her love for Mariah isn’t new. Earlier this year, Muni honored her at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards with a performance of “We Belong Together.” After the show, she shared that Mariah asked her to sing and personally thanked her for the tribute.
“Nobody can sing Mariah’s songs like Mariah,” Muni said, adding that the icon told her she did a “great job” and “appreciated” the moment.
