Ciara Reveals How Her Body Changed After Giving Birth + Shares How She Stays Healthy Through Dance!

The proud mom-of-three always makes time for self-care.

Ciara is opening up about how her body changed after giving birth. The multi-hyphenate star recently sat down with Women’s Health to speak about a wide range of topics, including how she changed her workout routine after the birth of her three children.

“I’ve accepted that my body will never be what it used to be. I have diastasis recti, which is when your ab muscles split after birth,” Ciara explained during the candid conversation. “When I learned this, it was game-changing because you can train wrong for your abs. I had to educate myself on that and learn to retrain my abs.”

According to Cleveland Clinic, “Diastasis recti is a common condition in pregnant and postpartum people. It occurs when the rectus abdominis muscles (six-pack ab muscles) separate during pregnancy from being stretched. The separation can make a person's belly stick out or bulge months or years postpartum. It can be repaired with special exercises that help to close the separation.”

To ensure she works out properly, the busy mom turns to a trainer five days a week. The singer shared, “When I train, it’s a combination of plyometric workouts mixed with weights and cardio as well, because I dance. The cardio conditioning is really important for me, especially being here in Denver. It’s another beast, with the altitude.”

When she’s not working out with her trainer, she turns to her Peloton to ensure she meets her daily workout goals. She’s also a fan of boxing. “I like boxing when I’m trying to figure things out,” she explained. “That’s a part of [my] ‘therapy’—exercise.”

The busy entrepreneur also makes it a point to eat healthy.

“I’ve really worked on committing to working out and eating as a lifestyle,” the WW ambassador revealed. “And then I have moments where I give myself grace. I haven’t worked out this week, because I’ve been traveling up and down, taking the kids to school, doing interviews. It’s been so much going on that I’m like, Let’s not stress. But tomorrow, we’re back in, we’re back outside, and we’re back in the gym.”
