Meek Mill Reflects on Losing His $400 Shopping Money as a Teen in North Philly
Meek Mill logged onto X and opened another chapter of the Meek Chronicles, and each post pulled his audience straight into the memories he carries from growing up in North Philadelphia. He shared moments that shaped him long before fame, moments that still sit heavy on his spirit.
He began with a story about losing the only money he had at thirteen. He wrote, “I will never forget the 3 card molly oldhead caught me for my whole bankroll like $400 going shopping for clothes.” He said the man posted up in the same place the bus dropped kids off on Market Street, waiting on easy targets. Meek added, “He had five actors with him,” which showed how organized the setup was. He said the man stayed in their hallway, and the apartment building allowed it because he helped with chores. Meek remembered him clearly and wrote, “His name was Nelson.”
Meek said Nelson was murdered later. He shared that officers caught the suspected killer right away and allowed residents to release years of frustration while the man was cuffed. Meek wrote, “Rip to Nelson N 32nd St and Cecil B Moore Ave.”
He then shifted to another memory from the area around 18th Street and Berks Street. He noted that boxer Tevin Farmer grew up on that block, too. The tone changed again when Meek recalled a deadly moment close to his old home. He wrote, “On 18th and Norris a whole family got killed by a fire bomb like 3am women kids and men like 6 to 8 people. Then my house caught on fire years after. I couldnt stop smelling fire for 5 years.”
He closed the thread with an invite for anyone who lives near Temple University. “Jump in the car with me. Especially if you a Temple University student and live near 18th and Berks. A lil history lol.”
