Here's Why Tupac's Biopic Doesn't Have a Release Date

Producer L.T. Hutton shares some insider scoop.

Back in April, it was reported that the cast of the forthcoming biopic highlighting the career of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur finally wrapped up filming. Fast forward to this past September and fans were treated once again to an official trailer promoting the film, which at this point has been a decade in the making.

Despite these updates and teasers, the film still doesn't have an official release date. While many are criticizing the effort, either out of respect to the late icon or because they feel the story can't be done justice regardless of who is telling it, this hasn't stopped the production team from taking their time.

In an update posted to Instagram, producer L.T. Hutton recently spoke on why the film doesn't have a release date, stating firmly, "Hollywood will not be allowed to mess this up."

The biopic, aptly titled All Eyez on Me, was anticipated to have a November 11 release date, according to a current listing on IMDb. However, that date has since been replaced with the words "coming soon." While many assume this delay to mean that the team behind the sensitive project have run into yet another setback, Hutton is passionately explaining that "there is more to distribution [and] post-production than people understand."

In a video clip posted to his Instagram, Hutton shares that he's so dedicated to keeping the film authentic, he'd lay down in front of a Mack truck before he let someone else "mess it up."

Just this past week, acclaimed filmmaker John Singleton spoke out, saying he refuses to watch or support the film. He also claims he was initially included in the project but learned that those involved had motives that didn't align with his own.

"They want to make the Tupac story that involves them and not the Tupac story," Singleton shared in an interview dismissing the film.

Take a look at L.T. Hutton's rebuttal defending All Eyez on Me in the clip below.
