Denzel Washington Rips Sports Pundits For Uninformed Opinions

The Oscar winner blasted the current sports media landscape for being ‘opinionaires.’

Denzel Washington had time this week.

While promoting his latest film, “Highest 2 Lowest,” the Academy Award winner shared his thoughts on sports critics in the media who only give opinions on professional athletes.

“Everybody’s got an opinion. In fact, we live in a world of 'opinionaires,'" Washington said in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated. "That’s what I call them, 'opinionaires.' They’re on all the shows, a bunch of the guys, a couple that have played, but most of them who haven’t who have an opinion about what something should be when they haven’t done it. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, talk about those who can. Those who have know what they’re talking about. Those who haven’t, don’t. Period."

“That’s how I feel about that. Too much talking. Too much talking. Everybody got an opinion. Everybody’s sitting around getting fat. You know, thinking they know how to do it,” he continued. “Just ‘cuz you can sit behind a desk and chit chat doesn’t mean you can do a damn thing.”

Not only has he called out sports analysts, but he levied a critique at his favorite NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys. Speaking with Stephen A. Smith on First Take, Washington gave a scathing critique of team owner Jerry Jones’ handling of the team and Micah Parsons’ contract negotiations, which led to the star defensive player requesting to be traded from the team.

Denzel Washington Calls Out Jerry Jones Amid Dallas Cowboys Drama

"I don't like what Dallas is doing," Washington explained. “I know they're making a lot of money, and I’m happy for the owner, but the fans ain’t happy.

"I love the Cowboys, I love the Cowboys. Because I really love them, this is why I feel the way I feel ... All money ain't good money, Jerry,” he said.

“There's box office and there's Oscars. Jerry, been a while, huh? You ain't been to the show, you wouldn't know,” he added. “Haven't been to the show, so you wouldn't know what it is to win."
