Beyoncé Gives Fans a Rare Look at Jay-Z’s Hair Transformation From Locs to Afro

In a vlog-style Cécred video, Beyoncé reveals the behind-the-scenes process that helped Jay-Z trade his longtime locs for the afro he debuted at Roots Picnic.

Beyoncé is letting fans peek behind the curtain on one of the most talked-about beauty transformations of the summer.

In a new diary-style video tied to Cécred, the singer walked viewers through the process of helping her hubby Jay-Z go from his longtime locs to the full afro he recently debuted onstage at Roots Picnic, giving the public a rare glimpse at how the look came together and why it mattered to their family.

Beyoncé said Jay originally started growing his hair in part to help their daughter Blue Ivy love her own texture, turning the transformation into something that was about more than style.

The clip shows Beyoncé working alongside a team of professionals as Jay’s locs are carefully combed out with Cécred products. Reportedly the process took more than five days, with a meticulous detangling process to preserve the health and length of his hair. The result was the dramatic natural style fans first noticed when Jay stepped out at Roots Picnic. Fans instantly credited Bey’s Cécred haircare line for Jay’s freed tresses.

What makes the moment hit harder is that it shows Black hair care as a family story, a texture story, and a story of patience all at once. By showing the process instead of just the final photo, Beyoncé and Jay-Z turned a viral style change into something more intimate, and in the process, gave fans another example of how Cécred continues to live inside a much bigger conversation about hair health, texture, and care. Ok Cécred, we see you!
