Serena Williams Joins Bid To Buy Premier League Soccer Club Chelsea
Serena Williams and Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton are reportedly joining investor Martin Broughton’s bid to buy Premier League soccer club Chelsea.
According to CNN, the pair are investing as sport business investors, however it isn’t clear how much either were investing as part of the consortium.
Broughton’s consortium includes World Athletics President Sebastian Coe as well as Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who own sports teams including the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, CNN reports.
Williams is already part of a majority women-founded group who owns Angel City FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Broughton’s bid is one of three left currently vying to purchase Chelsea from current owner Roman Abramovich. In March, he announced plans to sell the club in the best interests of “the fans, the employees, as well as the Club’s sponsors and partners.”
