Q&A: Reginae Carter on Mother's Day

Reginae Carter shares her Mother's Day plans for Toya and gives us advice on how to make your mom's day a special one.

Being born to hip hop royalty may have gotten Reginae "Baby Carter" ready for the red carpet early, but her quiet confidence and baby-sage wisdom definitely came from her strong backbone—her mother. Reginae rushed home from school today with her friend Brea (daughter of Cash Money Records' C.E.O. Bryan "Baby" Williams) to talk with us about her favorite subject: Toya. As we prepare to celebrate mothers all around the world, Reginae told us a little bit about her favorite Mother's Day memories and offered a little advice on how to make yours a special one.

What are you doing for your Mother on Mother's Day?

Me and my mother aren’t together right now, but first thing in the morning I’m going to call her and wish her a happy Mother’s Day.

Why is it important to celebrate moms?

It’s important because it’s their day to be spoiled. They spoil us a lot. It’s just their day to be spoiled. It’s their day, and just make the best of it!

Do you and Toya have any special traditions that you share this time of year?

We don’t have any special traditions, we just celebrate. I just get her stuff and surprise her with stuff.

What's your favorite Mother's Day memory?

When I bought her a Louis Vuitton purse. Because she went in there the month before, and she was like, “Oh my gosh! I was just about to get that.”

Do you and your friends do something special for your moms together?

I haven’t thought about that, but maybe me and one of my best friends can do it one day.

Will you be doing a special Mother's Day edition of your web program The Baby Carter Show?

Oh thank you! Maybe I have one episode that’s coming up on the show later on, but I haven’t gotten to film after that.

Do you have any advice for other young women who are looking to get their mom something special on Mother’s Day?

You take them to the mall, either the week before, or the month before, or two weeks before, and whatever they look at, whatever they just want to break out and cry for—you just get it!

What about making something for them?

For the last three years, I made my mom cards and all those kinds of things. You know it’s good to make it, because it’s coming from the heart and they will really love that.

I hear that you have a special surprise for your mom on Mother’s Day. How are you keeping it secret?

I’m not being suspicious or anything. She thinks that she knows, but she really doesn’t. She doesn’t really know. We have her—we’ve got it! Just make your mother happy on Mother’s Day. We should be thankful that they brought us in this world, this peaceful world. [Laughs]
