Sexyy Red Promises Relief for St. Louis After Tornado
As her hometown reels from the aftermath of a powerful tornado, rapper Sexyy Red is stepping up for St. Louis.
In a memo post uploaded to her Instagram account on Wednesday, (May 21), the rapper let the residents of St. Louis know, “my heart is with you.” She added, “Idc what nobody say this the city that made me who I am so this is personal!! I have major plans to help us out I got us period just be patient and please stay strong. Let me know what y’all need so I can help out for now.”
The tornado that hit last week brought winds up to 152 mph and spanned nearly a mile wide.
On Tuesday (May 20), St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer described the impact in a press conference, saying, “There aren’t words. Whole entire sides, fronts, backs, tops of homes are missing. People have wrapped their personal belongings in Saran wrap... It is unbelievable what people are going through now.”
The St. Louis Magazine reported that while local officials are working around the clock, the city is still awaiting coordinated aid from the federal and state levels. FEMA, the State Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Small Business Administration have begun a preliminary damage assessment expected to take three days.
However, in the meantime, recovery efforts are largely being driven by volunteers, with some help from the National Guard. Sexyy Red’s message offers both comfort and action to a city still picking up the pieces.
