TDE Prepping Six Albums for New Year

Label president Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith tweets imprint's massive goal for 2014.

2013's success might end up being the tip of the iceberg for Top Dawg Entertainment. The West Coast label, home to Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock and ScHoolboy Q, will release a whopping six albums next year, founder/CEO Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith announced on Twitter late Saturday (Dec. 21). "WE RAN 2013 WITH OUT DROPPING 1 ALBUM," Tiffith tweeted. "I WONDER WUTS GONE HAPPEN IN 2014 WHEN I DROP 6.. THEY NOT READY 4 THIS #TDE #HiiiPoWeR TAKE OVER."

Despite not putting out any LPs this year, TDE grabbed the brunt of its publicity from Lamar, his infamous "Control" verse, and acclaim over the rapper's 2012 major label debut, good kid m.a.a.d. city. The album sold over a million copies, helped earn him seven Grammy nominations, and brightened the spotlight on TDE, which added singer SZA and rapper Isaiah Rashad to the roster this year.

Although Tiffith didn't go into detail, a six album roll-out could mean six separate projects from all six artists housed under TDE.

For now, fans can look forward to the Feb. 25 unveiling of ScHoolBoy Q's highly anticipate Oxymoron debut dedicated to his daughter, Joy, who helped reveal the drop date. "It's more to it than just making a song for her," Q told BET.com recently. "I'm basically painting a picture [for her] of what I'm doing in the streets and why I'm doing it, to help her out. It's an oxymoron within itself. I'm doing bad to do good."

Fellow Black Hippy group member Jay Rock is eyeing a 2014 release as well, for his sophomore effort, a follow up to 2011's Follow Me Home.

As of press time, TDE has yet to confirm other albums in the works for next year.
