'Fate of the Furious' Breaks An Epic Box Office Record

The franchise shows no sign of slowing down.

Looks like we know the fate of the Furious. Based on the box office dominance of The Fate of the Furious this weekend, that will likely be several more films in the franchise.
The latest film in the Fast and Furious series has proven once again that it's the most lucrative franchise in all of Hollywood after the new installment broke the global box office record for an opening weekend.

Thanks to director F. Gary Gray, the familiar cast including Tyrese, Ludacris, Dwayne Johnson, and the help of Oscar winner Charlize Theron, the film was able to bring in an astonishing $532.5 million worldwide since hitting theaters April 14th — topping the previous record holder, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, by approximately $3.5 million.

While the domestic revenue is expected to be just slightly over $100 million, the franchise is a huge hit around the world, allowing it to pull in the remaining $432 million abroad, reportedly bringing in an astonishing $190 million in China alone.

This is the latest chapter in a franchise that went from flirting with straight-to-DVD releases, to being one of the most lucrative franchises in film history. The uncertainty the franchise that followed the death of Paul Walker seems to be all but gone: we're guessing, as long as the cast is willing to come back, the Furious movies will keep coming.
