DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -- A hearing to determine whether there's probable cause to send a California man to trial on charges of plotting to blow up a Detroit-area mosque has been adjourned to give him time to confer with his new lawyer.

A judge appointed new defense counsel Friday after Roger Stockham said in court he wanted to get rid of Mark Haidar (HY'-duhr), saying the defense attorney "is a Shiite" and a "patron of the mosque.

Dearborn District Court Judge Mark Somers later appointed Livonia-based criminal defense attorney Matthew Evans.

The 63-year-old Stockham of Imperial Beach, Calif., made the statements during what was scheduled to be a preliminary examination.

Somers adjourned the hearing until Feb. 11.

Evans says he's seen no evidence that his client threatened to blow up the mosque.
