The three-year legal strife that’s kept the men at a hostile distance from one another was seemingly nearing its end when a video of what appeared to be a public reunification surfaced in March. Regrettably, that moment was short-lived, and it wasn’t the hatchet burial fans thought it was now that The Blast is reporting the men are back on opposite ends of the courtroom.
And their shared artist and Toronto hip-hop elitist Drake is the point of contention this time around.
According to The Blast, Birdman is accusing Weezy of his involvement in a ploy to misappropriate Drizzy’s royalties
The site claims that Baby counter sued Aspire Music Group, which is co-founded by Weezy’s manager, Cortez Bryant, last Friday (August 17) holding both Bryant and Wayne in contempt for colluding with lawyer Ronald Sweeney to pocket more cash from the Scorpion rapper’s royalties. Originally, Aspire was behind the plaintiff’s podium in 2017 when the company sued Cash Money and Universal Music for withholding Drizzy’s royalties owed to them, the site continues. Aspire reportedly credits itself for discovering Drake, and had a deal for copyrights and one-third of the net profits from his first six albums while the rest was to be divvied between the Young Money and Cash Money teams.
Birdman’s lawsuit, according to documents reportedly obtained by The Blast, is calling foul play on Bryant’s entire operation
“Aspire was simply a shell company,” the court documents of Cash Money’s claims reportedly reads. “There was no business purpose to forming Aspire, other than to siphon profits out of the joint venture and to divert those profits to Sweeney, Bryant, and Carter/ Young Money.”
Claims also held that the company was not involved in any other deals besides Drake’s record label signage and demands they dismiss the original lawsuit.
The site adds that Neither Wayne nor his Young Money team are named as defendants…
And even despite Cash Money’s claims listing Weezy as one of the conspirers to steal away with unauthorized amounts of Drizzy’s royalties.
*deep sigh* The saga continues, ladies and gentleman.
