Florida Man Convicted of Marrying Three Women at Once Gets Probation

Henry Betsey Jr. avoided jail time after pleading guilty to felony bigamy, but his wives say his apology lacked sincerity.

A Florida man who managed to marry three women without any of them knowing about the others has been sentenced for felony bigamy, according to reports.

On July 31, Henry Betsey Jr., 50, received two years' probation after pleading guilty in May to being married to three different women at the same time, according to ABC Action News and WKRC; Betsey tied the knot in separate counties, a move that allowed him to evade state detection.

None of the women knew about the other marriages until wife Tonya Betsey began searching her husband’s name in county databases and discovered he was also married to Michele Betsey and Brandy Betsey

“He sold the perfect person, when in reality, he was none of those things,” Tonya said, according to PEOPLE

“She found me and she messaged me, and I had no idea that she was actually still married to him,” Michele told ABC Action News earlier this year.

All three women told the court they had met Betsey on dating websites before marrying him at their local courthouses. Tanya met him on Tinder in November 2020; Brandy met him on Stir before marrying in February 2022; Michele met him on Match.com and married him in November 2022, just three weeks after they were introduced. According to the women, Betsey  “said all the right things” but may have been motivated by access to their finances.

The Deccan Herald reported that Betsey’s dating profile read: “Looking for a beautiful woman who understands the ups and downs of life, is trustworthy and no games.”

At his sentencing, Betsey—who attended his earlier plea hearing with a new girlfriend—appeared alone to face all three of his wives. He apologized to them, their families, and the court.

“I want to apologize to the ladies and I want to apologize to the court administration and to my family and friends that had to be involved in this, because ultimately this is something that I didn’t wish to be part of,” Betsey said.

Tonya said she doubted his apology was genuine. “I'm sure that it was only said because it was recommended by his attorney to say,” she told ABC Action News in an email statement, according to PEOPLE. “Do I think he has any remorse? Absolutely not.”
