Adam Housley Slammed for Controversial Comments on SNAP Benefits and Fraud
Although he’s married to a woman from a marginalized community, Adam Housley, the husband of Tamera Mowry-Housley, had sharp criticism for those who he believes are taking SNAP benefits for granted.
On Wednesday, February 18, the reporter and winemaker showed his advocacy for the possible SNAP Benefit Reform under President Donald Trump, which will reportedly “correct” the “financial mismanagement” of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
The news of the proposed change provoked Housley—who says he grew up in neighborhood grocery stories—to recall moments when he was five years old and witnessing customers buying “crap food for their kids with food stamps, then [opening] the wallet and [using] cash for liquor, beer, wine and cigarettes.”
“Then there were those who would repeatedly buy a lemon or lime, get the change, walk out the door throw them away and do it again,” he continued. “Until they had enough change to buy cigarettes or alcohol.”
Although he was a child, the presumed misuse of food stamps apparently made Housley “pissed” due to there being “some people who could really use the help and then there are these others working the system.”
A flood of criticism came in, with Housley calling his detractors “haters” while claiming his comments were “taken out of context.”
“We were talking about how fraud hurt people who truly needed them. I saw it firsthand for years and continue to help people in need out of my own pocket,” Housley explained.
Housley’s views are particularly controversial, as he was a senior correspondent for conservative news platform, Fox News, from 2001 to 2018.
