André 3000’s 2023 album New Blue Sun came as no surprise to longtime fans because he’s released instrumental music for years. During his time in OutKast, he produced as part of the Atlanta rap duo, with one of his earliest instrumental songs being on Speakerboxx/The Love Below. This month, the nine-time Grammy winner released EP 7 Piano Sketches, which sees Three Stacks experimenting with the chordophone. BET.com explores five songs where the rapper and musician has shown off his instrumental chops, including songs from the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning film “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”

Look Ma No Hands

In 2018, five years after the death of his mother, Sharon Benjamin Hodo, André released two-song EP Look Ma No Hands, which features the titular song and "Me&My (To Bury Your Parents)". The musical accompaniment showcases him on the clarinet.  

“Pinky Fight”

Three Stacks didn’t star in the 2022 action-drama “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” but his flute was a standout on the frenzied Son Lux-produced “Pinky Fight.”

“My Life Without You”

André and his trusted flute returned on the emotional “My Life Without You,” while other “Everything” songs he appeared on were “Dog Fight” and “Specks of Time.”

“My Favorite Things”

André turned the classical into futuristic on The Love Below deep cut “My Favorite Things,” a 2003 twist on the Rodgers and Hammerstein staple.

“BuyPoloDisorder's Daughter Wears A 3000® Shirt Embroidered”

Despite its chaotic title, New Blue Sun track “BuyPoloDisorder’s” is a blissful 13-minute odyssey, the song marking the third-longest on the LP.
