Pacers Defeat The Knicks Led By Tyrese Haliburton's Historic Triple-Double
As he continued to refute the “overrated” allegations, Tyrese Haliburton recorded a historic triple-double of 32 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds, with no turnovers, leading the Indiana Pacers to a 130-121 victory over the New York Knicks. It is the first time those numbers have ever been posted, and now the Pacers have a commanding 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference finals.
From the outset, Halliburton was set on finding his shot, hitting 5 three-pointers, and he relentlessly attacked the basket.
"I was just trying to be aggressive," Haliburton said. "Just trying to play my best. I felt like I let the team down in Game 3. I could have been so much better. I felt like I responded the right way today."
With his father, John Haliburton, reinstated and back in attendance at the game, he shared how the Pacers were on a mission after blowing a 20-point lead on Sunday’s loss to the Knicks.
"I just want to be able to prove that I can respond when my back's against the wall, when our team's back is against the wall," he said. "This is a big win for us because if we go back down there 2-2, it's a little different momentum-wise."
Additionally, for the Pacers, Pascal Siakam scored 30 points, hitting 3 of 4 from long range, along with five rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. Battling an ankle injury that he suffered in Game 4, Aaron Nesmith scored 16 points and kept up his usual defensive intensity.
For the Knicks, Jalen Brunson scored 31 points, grabbed two rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block. Karl Anthony Towns scored 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Pacers coach Rick Carlisle lauded Haliburton for his incredible performance.
He was the leader tonight," Carlisle said. "And we had some difficult film stuff yesterday. Not fun. But our guys, they're authentic guys and they want authenticity and the truth, and sometimes the truth is pretty painful. We allowed things to go a different direction than they needed to go in Game 3, and tonight we were determined to turn it back our direction."
While the Knicks' former players have received media attention for showing up at Madison Square Garden during the playoffs, Pacers greats Jermaine O'Neal, George Hill, and Lance Stephenson were all in attendance to cheer on the Pacers.
Game 5 of the series is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, at Madison Square Garden.
