This Teen's Father Told Her to 'Go Live With N******' for Having a Black Prom Date

Anna Hayes was disowned and called a "whore."
  • This is Anna Hayes, a high school senior in Lake Village, Arkansas

  • Hayes said when she was growing up, she witnessed a lot of racism, especially from her father

"He had always been openly racist around me when I was growing up in his household, but it never really occurred to me what it exactly meant to be racist, when you're a child you look at the world completely different," Hayes told Buzzfeed News."He has told me that if I ever dated a Black guy that I will and would be dead to him."

  • Although she received threats from her father, Hayes asked her friend Phillip Freeman – who is Black – to be her date to prom

  • Upon sharing photos from prom night, Hayes received a string of offensive messages from her father

Hayes' father called her a "whore" and told her to "go live with n*****." Although Hayes does not have much of a relationship with her father, his words still very much upset her.

"This just hurt more because I can not believe how anyone can hate someone they don't even know because of their skin color," Hayes told Buzzfeed.

  • After Hayes sent the messages to Freeman, he posted them to his Facebook, and they were repeatedly shared by others

  • People were absolutely disgusted Hayes's father could say such awful and racist things to his daughter

  • As a result of all the attention she's received, Hayes posted a message to add more details and ask that people stop making threats to her family
