Rick Ross Details Mushroom-Induced Seizure in New Memoir

Ross candidly recounted the experience in ‘Renaissance of a Boss’ as his daughter publicly joked that she keeps him grounded, ‘You’re old.’

Rick Ross said one of the scariest moments of his life came after a psychedelic trip that ended with a seizure.

Ross details this horrifying episode in his forthcoming memoir, “Renaissance of a Boss.” In it, Ross describes a 2022 scare that forced urgent medical care and an emergency landing while he was traveling. He said the episode happened while he was under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms.

“Renaissance of a Boss” is more of an experience for Ross. The memoir explores his creative process, advice on “bounce back from flops,” untold stories of his collaborations with Dr. Dre, Bruno Mars, and Bill Murray, and the rituals and habits that have gotten him to where he is today. The mushroom incident is part of this larger road trip and search for creative renewal, hence the psychedelics. The memoir took him from Elvis Presley’s Graceland to a Native American sweat lodge and beyond, and it forced him to confront hard questions about accountability and self-care.

The “Champagne Moments” rapper isn’t shy about sharing his health struggles. He previously wrote about a severe seizure in his 2019 memoir “Hurricanes,” and those earlier scares inspired him to rethink parts of his lifestyle.

Ross’ daughter, Toie Roberts, recently went viral for a blunt livestream in which she joked she keeps her father grounded, telling him, “You act like you my age. You’re not. You’re old,” and urging him to slow down as he balances a busy career and growing family. “Before my daddy had eight kids, he had two,” she explained, noting that she and her older brother are the only adults. “Everybody else is kids. They’re babies.” Roberts shared that Ross had her when he was 27, before he was famous, so they share a special bond and that she keeps him in check.

“Renaissance of a Boss” is Ross’ third book, preceded by “Hurricanes: A Memoir” and “The Perfect Day to Boss Up.”

“Renaissance of a Boss” is slated for a May 2026 release.
