‘Tyler Perry’s Sistas’: Karen's Labor Takes A Darker Turn

Karen and her babies’ lives are on the line as she becomes the victim of medical gaslighting.

The latest episode of “Tyler Perry’s Sistas” is suspenseful and dramatic as Karen’s life is on the line. At the hospital, Karen’s mom and Aaron are there with her as others in the crew make their way through jammed-up traffic post-blackout. Karen doesn’t look good; she’s bleeding a lot, feverish, in a lot of pain, and her doctor, Dr. Cruz, isn’t taking her concerns seriously. He keeps telling them that her labor is normal. Spoiler alert: It’s not. Karen’s mom is advocating for her, though. Fatima and Dani eventually arrive and also start standing up for Karen with the type of vigor needed. You know how they do.

Let’s fast-forward a bit. Eventually, Karen’s village finds a fourth-year resident, named Dr. Von, who agrees to do an ultrasound after seeing Karen’s severe condition. He discovers that one of her babies doesn't have a heartbeat, so it’s going to be a stillborn, and that’s why Karen is struggling. She needs a C-section. Otherwise, she’s going to die right along with the other baby. The resident heads out and lays this information out to Dr. Cruz, who takes a condescending attitude with him, too, telling him that he overstepped, yada yada. Ultimately, Karen’s life is in jeopardy. Sabrina got to the hospital just in time to walk up on the doctors chatting, so she overhears everything, including Dr. Cruz’s dismissal of Dr. Von, so she tells the rest of Karen’s village what’s up.

Andi uses her legal expertise to determine, from Dr. Von, how Karen can be assigned to a new doctor, and they get the ball rolling on that. Dr. Von is on the job, tasked with saving two lives. But just when it seems like things might be looking up, Karen flatlines, and we leave it there for now.
