Dwyane Wade Blasts Ex-Wife For Blocking Zaya’s Name And Gender Change

In court documents, Siovaughn Funches-Wade alleged the move was for financial gain.

Dwyane Wade is firing back at his ex-wife, Siohvaughn Funches-Wade, over her decision to attempt to block their daughter Zaya’s name and gender change.

In new court documents obtained by TMZ, the NBA legend says the objection to his court petition is both “libelous” and “nonsensical” and that his 15-year-old daughter, who is transgender, should be allowed to legally change her name and gender.

Wade argues in the new filing that it’s in Zaya’s “best interest”, saying, "A court order affirming her identity will allow Zaya to live more comfortably and honestly in all aspects of her life -- from simple introductions and food orders to applying for a driver's license and filling out college applications."

"This petition is about allowing Zaya to take on the milestones of being a young adult with confidence and joy," it continues.

Funches-Wade argued in court documents earlier this month that the move should be barred, alleging that her daughter’s father "may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies."

Dwyane relayed what was going on at the time via his Instagram account.

Since 2020, Zaya has been going by Zaya with her father filing a petition for the name and gender change in August.
