2023 NAACP Image Awards: Regina Hall is Our Forever Comedy Darling

The award-winning actress rose to prominence following her performance in the cult classic “Scary Movie” franchise.

Regina Hall is one of the funniest women in Hollywood—accolades not needed. Since making her first television appearance in the late 90s, Hall has created a legacy filled with classic films and downright funny moments.

At this year’s NAACP Image Awards, the veteran actress earned a nomination for “Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture” for her performance in the Adamma Ebo -directed movie, Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul. She is up against several fellow heavy hitters, including Danielle Deadwyler, Keke Palmer, Letitia Wright, and recently announced EGOT winner Viola Davis. However, before we reveal who will win, check out five performances where Regina Hall proves she’s mastered the art of comedy.

  • About Last Night

Hall paired up with several familiar faces, including Kevin Hart, Michael Ealy, and actress Joy Bryant in the 2014 romcom About Last Night. The film follows two couples who test how their relationships work in the real world, filled with life's twists and turns. Hall and Hart play love interests in the film. They make for a hilarious duo, thanks to their on-screen chemistry.

  • Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul

Hall is effortlessly funny as first lady Trinitie Childs, wife of megachurch Pastor Lee-Curtis Childs, portrayed by Golden Globe-winning actor Sterling K. Brown. The mockumentary-style comedy has plenty of standout scenes, including a performance by the leading duo to Crime Mobb’s iconic record, “Knuck If You Buck.”

  • Black Monday

The veteran actress put on a stellar performance as Dawn Towner, the right-hand woman of Maurice Monroe at The Jammer Group and the only female head trader on Wall Street in Showtime’s dark comedy series Black Monday. Hall earned several recognitions for the part, including an NAACP Image Awards nomination in 2021 for “Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series.”

  • Little

Hall is boss lady Jordan Sanders in the 2019 fantasy comedy Little alongside Issa Rae and executive producer Marsai Martin. As a child, Sanders was bullied, but as an adult, she’s now the bully running her own tech company and treats everyone horribly until she’s cursed and goes back to her 13-year-old self again.

  • Scary Movie

Hall’s career soared to new heights following her appearances in Scary Movie and subsequent sequels, including Scary Movie 2,3, and 4, as upbeat, sex-positive Brenda Meeks. The actress has provided so much comedic relief through all four films that picking a top moment is challenging.
