Detroit Man Walks 6-Year-Old Girl to School After Finding Her Alone
A Detroit man’s simple act of kindness has turned into a moment the internet can’t stop talking about.
On Monday morning, Joshua Threatt was driving along 14th Street on the city’s west side when he noticed something that immediately stopped him in his tracks, a 6-year-old girl walking alone on her way to school.
The sight didn’t sit right with him.
“Got this precious little girl out here walking by herself,” he said while recording the moment.
Threatt later told CBS News Detroit that seeing such a young child without an adult nearby instantly raised concern.
“It just threw me off,” he explained.
“She was by herself, 6 years old—she needed somebody to be with her.”
Rather than calling out from his car, the good Samaritan made a deliberate choice.
He got out and decided to walk with her, making sure she reached her destination safely.
Over the next 10 blocks, the two made their way to Thirkell Elementary School.
In a Facebook Live video that would later spread across social media, Threatt explained his thinking in the moment.
“I ain’t want to put her in my truck, bro, so I got out and walked with her,” he said.
“Made sure she got to where the f*** she’s going.”
By the time they reached the school doors, the weight of the moment hit him.
Overcome with emotion, Threatt broke down in tears on camera, clearly moved by the experience.
What started as a quiet, instinctive decision quickly went viral.
His video has since racked up millions of views on Facebook alone, with even more circulating across other platforms.
“I’m getting thank yous from around the world,” Threatt said.
“When I went live, it was people tuning in from everywhere from Texas, Los Angeles, Nebraska, Idaho.”
Detroit police later confirmed that the child is safe and that they are now looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
