Kyrie Irving Will Reportedly Sign A New 3-Year $119 Million Deal With the Dallas Mavericks
Kyrie Irving has found a home in Texas.
The eight-time All-Star will reportedly decline his $42.9 million player option for the 2025-26 season and will sign a three-year, $119 million extension with the Dallas Mavericks. The deal includes a player option for 2027-28, according to CBS Sports.
Irving’s extension will not go into effect until July 6, and he’s expected to miss the majority of the 2025-26 season as he recovers from a torn ACL. Getting long-term security is imperative for the superstar point guard.
The deal works out for both sides as Irving took a slight discount, which will help the Mavericks' cap situation and gives the squad a $5.7 million mid-level exception to sign a guard in free agency to replace Irving, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. He plans to return to the Mavericks in January.
Last season, Irving, 33, averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in 50 games last season with the Mavericks before tearing his ACL on March 3. The devastating injury took place shortly after the controversial trade of Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.
Irving was also named to the 2025 All-Star team.
Along with Irving’s new deal, Mavericks center Daniel Gafford agreed to a three-year, $54 million deal that ties him to Dallas through 2028-29.
The Mavericks also drafted Cooper Flagg with the number one pick in the NBA Draft to team with Irving and Anthony.
