Monaleo Cancels Shows After Emergency Surgery, Urges Fans to ‘Listen to Your Body’
Rising rapper Monaleo canceled two dates on her Who Did the Body Tour after an abrupt health emergency that led to surgery and the loss of an ovary and a fallopian tube — and she used the moment to urge fans to “listen to your body.”
Monaleo announced the cancellations for her Memphis and New Orleans stops on social media and explained the severity of her condition in a series of tweets. “Yesterday, out of nowhere got a sharp pain in my lower abdomen. Took some pain meds, 2 hours went by the pain got worse. I went to the ER and could hardly make it through the ultrasound without throwing up. Worst pain ever fr. I had an inflamed cyst the size of a softball that had twisted and cut off blood flow and caused bleeding in my abdomen,” she wrote. She added, “Had to have emergency surgery and unfortunately lost an ovary and fallopian tube in the process.”
Monaleo apologized to ticket holders and acknowledged the effort fans put into attending shows — travel, outfits, hair, and makeup — and promised the team was “currently sorting through the refund process and looking at rescheduling dates, as promised.” She wrote she wasn’t sure how long recovery would take and again emphasized the lesson: “listen to your body when things are off. As a person who hates ERs and never wants to go, this could’ve been a lot worse.”
Monaleo’s warning is a cautionary tale to stop normalizing women’s pain, citing actress and fibroid activist Lupita Nyong’o, who has been transparent about her recurring fibroid issues. “When we reach puberty, we’re taught that periods mean pain, and that pain is simply part of being a woman,” Nyong’o said, arguing that private conversations reveal how many women silently endure serious symptoms.
Monaleo’s team appears focused on care and communication: the artist said she was still awaiting hospital release as she posted and that her crew would work on refunds and reschedules. For fans, the immediate takeaway is simple and stark: if something feels off, get checked — quickly. Monaleo closed her thread with blunt advice to followers: “Also taking this as an opportunity to tell yall to again , listen to your body!!!!!!! if something feels off IT IS!!!!”
