NYPD Group Chat Lawsuit Alleges KKK Image, Racist Slurs

The lawsuit claims officers shared racist, antisemitic, and anti-immigrant content inside a Manhattan unit.

A former Bronx detective just shared that he's had enough and is suing New York City.

The lawsuit alleges that Manhattan officers in a narcotics unit exchanged racist and antisemitic messages in a group chat.

Among those messages were a doctored KKK image and slurs aimed at immigrants, Latinos, and Jewish people. Per News 12, the lawsuit says the messages are evidence of a toxic work culture inside the NYPD and retaliation against the detective who brought the claims.

The lawsuit was filed by Luis Pichardo, a 19-year NYPD veteran, who says he was pushed aside after years on the job and later targeted when he complained about discrimination.

News 12 shares that the filing includes screenshots from the chat and alleges the harassment intensified in 2025 after Pichardo was passed over for a promotion.

According to the lawsuit, officers shared a manipulated image of a detective wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood, along with memes, swastikas and other offensive content. The filing also alleges that some messages mocked Black men killed by police and made crude jokes about immigrants and Jewish people.

The NYPD told the outlet that it has “zero tolerance for hate and discrimination” and said the allegations are under internal investigation.

“A lot of police officers, detectives, they stay quiet," said Pichardo to News 12. "This happened to me and I’m going to speak up for the next generation that are trying to apply to NYPD to not have that situation in the future."
