BET Awards 10 Makes History

There wasn't just one moment. There were many. The BET Awards '10 made history on Sunday, June 27 when the biggest names in music, from then and now, took the stage to celebrate the show's 10th anniversary.

Hosted by Queen Latifah, the show began with the highly-anticipated performance from Kanye West, who hadn't been seen since the Taylor Swift incident at the MTV Music Awards. Kanye held a microphone on his set, which had him standing at the top of a snowy mountain.

At the start of the show, Queen Latifah sang a song where she poked fun at Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, Drake, and others. Everyone laughed as she continued to sing jokes in front of the star-studded audience. Then, she stripped down into a more hip-hop like wardrobe and rapped to remind the crowd how she started in the business.

Usher kept the momentum going with his performance of "There Goes My Baby," and things were just getting started. Later on in the evening, Prince received the Lifetime Achievement Award, after Janelle Monae, Esperanza Spalding, Alicia Keys and Patti Labelle delivered powerful performances of his songs.

John Legend received the Huminatarian Award and Nicki Minaj, who performed 3 different times during the night, picked up the Award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist. Another big winner was Alicia Keys, who took home two awards, one for Best Female R&B Artist and Best Collaboration.

With major star power in the audience, on the stage and on the red carpet, every inch of the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles was covered with celebrities. The performances were top notch, with folks like Diddy, Drake, Trey Songz, and T.I. raising the energy in the room.

The show reached its climax, however, when Chris Brown hit the stage for a long overdue Michael Jackson tribute. The singer danced to a medley of MJ hits, before dropping to his knees for a tearful performance of "Man In The Mirror.

During Monica's performance, Deniece Williams surprised the audience with "Silly." This year, the Awards served as a bridge between the stars of yesterday, today and tomorrow, all who played a part in making history at one of the hottest BET Awards shows ever.

If you missed the show, catch it again TONIGHT (Tues., June 29) at 6:30pm/5:30c.
