Hines Ward Busted for DUI
Hines Ward, wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers and reigning champ of Dancing With the Stars, was arrested early Saturday morning in Georgia for driving under the influence.
The Associated Press reports that the 35-year-old was booked at Dekalb County Jail right outside of Atlanta at 3:41 this morning. He was released after posting a $1,300 bond. The sheriff’s office said it had filed papers with the courts and couldn’t release any further information.
This past May, Ward became the second pro footballer to win Dancing With the Stars, defeating Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane. A two-time Superbowl champ and four-time Pro Bowler, Ward is known for both his physical, take-no-prisoners play on the field and, until today, his squeaky clean reputation off the field. He has been hailed for his Helping Hands Foundation, which aims to improve literacy among inner-city youth. In 2006, Ward, who was born in Seoul to a Korean mother and an African-American father, donated $1 million to start a new foundation to help fight widespread discrimination against mixed-race children in South Korea. And last year, President Barack Obama appointed him to the White House Advisory Commission on Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders.
Ward has yet to comment on the charges.
