Nia Long's Dating Requirements: Flowers, Consistent Effort, and NDAs for One-Night Stands
Nia Long knows exactly what she wants. And more importantly, she knows what she does not want — starting with people who cannot keep quiet.
The actress and BET.com favorite appeared Tuesday on Keke Palmer's podcast Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, where she was direct about her expectations in the years since her split from Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka in 2022. Long, 55, shares a 14-year-old son, Kez, with Udoka and also has a 25-year-old son, Massai, from a previous relationship.
"I want flowers sent to my house," she told Palmer. "I need you to show consistent effort. I need you to show me that I need you." She added that having experienced genuine love throughout her life has made her attuned to the difference between real connection and what she called "playtime."
Discretion, it turns out, is non-negotiable. "People talk too much. I need them to shut up," Long said. "If we're going to have a one-night stand, I almost feel like I need to have them sign NDAs." She added — with some transparency that sent the internet into a full celebration — "There are a lot of people that I would be down to have a little fun with. Not a lot, but some."
She Doesn't Even Like the Word 'Dating'
In a separate Playboy interview that also went viral, Long was equally candid about where she is in life. "I feel like that requires me to go out and do something," she said of the dating concept. She confirmed she prefers younger men — "I think there's something fun about younger. And they also go home" — while insisting she is not actively seeking a relationship. "I'm really focused on my kids, my work, and my girlfriends."
Long currently stars in the Michael Jackson biopic "Michael" as Katherine Jackson, which opens April 24.
