5 Classic Records From ‘Best Gospel/Inspiration’ Nominee Kelly Price

We look back at some of the hits from the 2021 'Soul Train Awards' nominee.

Singer and songwriter Kelly Price has had an illustrious career since making her breakthrough in the music industry in the early 90s. Over the years, the soul and gospel singer has cranked out hit after hit garnering herself numerous awards and nominations including a nine Grammy noms. This year, the R&B crooner is going up against some of the biggest acts in gospel music including, Kirk Franklin and Tasha Cobbs Leonard, for the “Best Gospel/Inspirational” award.

Ahead of the 2021 Soul Train Awards, we’re taking a look back at some classic hits from the singer that proves why she deserved her nomination. Take a look.

  • “Not My Daddy” Ft. Stokley

    The 2x Grammy-nominated R&B ballad featured the songstress alongside 2020 Soul Train Awards performer Stokley Williams. The record is off her fifth album Kelly.

  • “He Proposed”

    This track from Kelly’s third album Priceless, paints the picture of a perfect  marriage proposal. This song earned the singer a Grammy nomination in 2003 for “Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance.”

  • “As We Lay”

    Whew! Originally recorded by The Human Body and later Shirley Murdock, Kelly’s rendition earned the star a Grammy nomination in 2000 for “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.”

  • “You Should’ve Told Me”

    Kelly tackles troubled relationships and insecurities in the PAJAM-produced hit.  Kelly gave an emotionally-packed vocal performance with lyrics such as “What you had in mind / Made me lose my mind.  And we never should've wasted this time.”

  • “Secret Love” Remix Ft Jermaine Dupri & Brat

    Kelly teams up with the So So Def super producer and label rapper for a groovy and upbeat take on the original of the same title.
