T-Pain Announces A Break After Doctors Warn Him Of Permanent Voice Damage

"The truth of the matter is I just haven't been taking care of myself..."

R&B’s autotune maestro T-Pain just announced that he is taking some time off from music after doctor's revealed he was at risk for permanent voice damage.
In a statement released via his Instagram page, the visibly frustrated Rappa Ternt Sanga artist opened up to fans about his condition, announcing he'd be canceling the remainder of his tour.

  • "What's good, man, it's your homeboy T-Pain, f***ing obviously,” he began. “There's been a lot of work I've been doing. I just got off tour. Sometimes I was doing two shows a day, entertaining the people, going to afterparties, and doing my thing. Just working, working, working, working, working.”

The double-time Grammy Award-winning musician recently released his sixth studio album 1UP back in February, which featured cameos from Lil Wayne to Torey Lanez. That same month, Pain also revealed himself as The Masked Singer on Fox's hit competition show, where he ditched his signature pitch to sing bare vocals instead.

  • However, despite a successful start to the year, T-Pain went on to confess that he failed to prioritize his health the past few months, resulting in his current condition.

"The truth of the matter is I just haven't been taking care of myself,” he admitted. “So, after my last couple shows, I started getting a few pains in my throat and stuff like that so I went to the doctor and he basically told me that I had to get off the road immediately or I was gonna start doing permanent damage to my voice.” Additionally, he added, he’d also been straining his voice for over two months with consecutive shows. “But doctors came to the conclusion that I needed, first of all, a shot in my a**, which I didn't want to do,” he revealed, “obviously, because that sh** sucks. And I gotta take all of this [medication] for the next six days and hopefully I get better. But right now my voice is just completely out of whack for performing."

  • The devoted artist also got candid about his desire to not only please fans, but also to make a dollar, citing that production cost for the tour was pricey. "Look man, I definitely wanted to entertain you guys, and at the risk of sounding like an asshole, I definitely wanted the money [too],” he said. However, the Nappy Boy Ent. CEO cautioned concertgoers to remain hopeful, confirming that a reschedule was definitely in the works. "Again, I'm sorry. And we're not necessarily straight up canceling everything. We are rescheduling. So I'll be back out there to make it up to ya'll."

We wish T-Pain a speedy and full recovery!
