Bruno Mars had a breakout year in 2010. The Cali-bred singer/songwriter became a bankable star thanks to a collection of hit songs like his “Just the Way You Are.” For having such an impactful year the 25-year-old was named one of Time magazine’s most influential people in the world.
In making the venerable weekly's annual "Time 100" list, Mars is one of only a handful of musicians to earn the distinction this year. In an appraisal penned by fellow Atlantic Records artist B.o.B., the singer is cited as part of a "new wave of musicians who can do everything: sing, play, write, produce."
Mar's debut album, Doo-Wops and Hooligans, was released this past October and was nominated for seven Grammys. It won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the original song "Just the Way You Are."
Other familiar names on the 2011 Time 100 list include pop phenom Justin Bieber, social activist Geoffrey Canada, actor Mark Wahlberg and first lady Michelle Obama. For the full list click here.
