Deadly Shooting Breaks Out at Tulsa Juneteenth Festival
One person was killed and seven others were injured when gunfire broke out at Tulsa's Juneteenth Festival late Saturday night, according to local reports.
The Greenwood District, formerly known as "Black Wall Street," hosted its 2025 Juneteenth Festival over several days. Among the events was a runway show on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. When officers on the scene heard gunshots at approximately 11 p.m., while the event was still in full swing, attendees fled in a panic.
Seven people were injured in the incident, and police confirmed that a 22-year-old man died. A 17-year-old and an elderly woman were among the injured; on Sunday morning, at least one 24-year-old man was listed in critical condition. Every victim received medical attention at nearby hospitals.
Although no one has been taken into custody, authorities believe that at least two shooters were involved. With assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Tulsa Police Department is still conducting a "very active investigation."
Late on Saturday, festival organizers released a statement confirming the shooting and stating that their medical and security personnel on the scene responded right away. They added that they are fully assisting law enforcement. Officials asked the community to remember victims and their families, and the rest of the festival's programming was canceled "out of respect for those impacted." As new information becomes available, it will be shared.
The statement read: "We are actively cooperating with the Tulsa Police Department and other law enforcement agencies as the investigation continues. Our of respect for those impacted, all programming is currently canceled. Please keep our community in your prayers. We will share additional updates as more information becomes available."
