Inaugural Caribbean Film Festival Launches in Trinidad and Tobago to Spotlight Diasporic Cinema
The Caribbean is taking center stage with the launch of the inaugural Caribbean Film Festival (CFF), set to run June 11–15 in Port of Spain. The festival will feature films from across the region, spotlighting both established and emerging voices from countries including Jamaica, Trinidad, and Haiti.
The CFF will showcase award-winning cinema, debut features, and dynamic panels under one roof, cementing the Caribbean as a creative powerhouse. Festival highlights include the Circle of Influence panel featuring cultural leaders like Maxine Williams and Marc-Kwesi Farrell, a Funding Solutions for Caribbean Creatives workshop, and a slate of screenings by directors such as Nelson Foix and Jean-Claude Barny. The celebration will culminate in Fever at Calabash Garden, a music-driven cultural party.
“For too long we’ve looked at others on screen. Now, it’s time to see ourselves,” said Asha Lovelace, Festival Director. Executive Director Melanie Jones Powell added, “The Caribbean is more than a vacation destination—it’s a pressure cooker of creativity.”
The CFF aims to be a global platform for diasporic film and a hub for cross-cultural connection, education, and cinematic excellence.
