Killer Mike on Taking Down the System: Don't March — Boycott!

The MC is urging Black folks to do one thing to make an impact.

Known for being one of the most intelligent and "woke" voices within the hip hop community, many have been waiting to hear what Killer Mike had to say on the recent injustices involving Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Speaking with Atlanta's Hot 107, the MC gave some words on how real change can be achieved.

"We don't have to burn our city down. But, what we can do is go down to our banks tomorrow," he said. "You can go to your bank tomorrow and you can say, 'Until you as a corporation start to speak on our behalf, I want all my money. And, I'm taking all my money to Citizens Trusts.'"

Mike made it clear that he's not talking about marching and speaking, but actual action: "I ain't saying, 'march, hold hands, speak.' I'm saying 'Take your money out of this dog's hands, out of their paws! Take your money!"

Always one to give receipts, he explained how this plan can work.

"What we're going to do is to start to divert money from the system," he said. "And this works. Apartheid ended in South Africa because students in America said, 'We not flying Delta anymore. We're not drinking Coca-Cola anymore. We're not supporting any corporations that supports that Apartheid and enslavement of people who look like us."

He then ended with this gem: "It's time to get these dogs out of office that care nothing for you. It's time to get these people nationally."
