Per usual when it comes to all things Nicki, that speculation happened to also land in an interview with her first boyfriend and music executive, Safaree. But considering his public (and violent) spat with Nicki’s prior rap boyfriend, Meek Mill, and legally butting heads with her over the years, his advice for the pair that fans have now deemed “Nicki MiNas” may surprise you.
In a new interview with The Source, the Love & Hip Hop Hollywood star’s reaction to the possible coupledom between his raptress ex-girlfriend and the Queens hip-hop legend was simple: “It is what it is.” Safaree added that should their relationship actually be a thing, its longevity will depend on whether they choose privacy over publicity.
“So once you start doing all of that stuff to prove something is real that’s going to put stress on relationships and it just makes a relationship way harder and everything starts to look corny after a while,” he suggested. “But when it’s private and don’t nobody know nothing and all they can do is speculate, then it’s like, OK, cool. You want to be in their business or we can’t because we don’t know s**t.”
He also revealed that following the death of his uncle, a relative whom Safaree was extremely close to throughout his lifetime, he hadn’t received any condolences from Nicki. Not that he expected to, however, after revealing that they haven’t had any sort of communication nor contact in four years. Even when he and Meek went to blows during the weekend of the 2017 BET Awards, in which Safaree claimed the Dreamchasers boss and his crew jumped him, Nicki remained distant and indifferent toward the incident.
Nonetheless, we’re happy to know the two are peacefully moving forth in their own respective lanes, anyway.
